In the new "crime scene" from Cologne "Captive", inspectors Max Ballauf (Klaus J. Behrendt) and Freddy Schenk (Dietmar Bär) have to solve the murder of a chief physician in a psychiatric clinic. Ballauf himself is currently being treated: A trauma that he thought he had already overcome is coming back with a vengeance. After shooting his colleague Melanie Sommer (Anna Brüggemann) in action, he is plagued by nightmares and feelings of guilt. Sometimes he thinks he sees the dead woman in front of him. He can't talk about it, not even with his partner Freddy Schenk. The atmosphere in the team is correspondingly tense. During her investigations in the hospital, a patient gets excitedBallauf's attention. Julia Frey (Frida-Lovisa Hamann) claims that she is being held against her will in the closed ward of the clinic.
