Season 1
The first series of Strictly Come Dancing began airing on BBC One on 15 May 2004. Eight well-known celebrities were paired with professional ballroom dancers and the show was presented by Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly. The judging panel was announced as Craig Revel Horwood, Len Goodman, Arlene Phillips and Bruno Tonioli. The series was won by newsreader and presenter, Natasha Kaplinsky and her partner, Brendan Cole on 3 July 2004.

The second series of Strictly Come Dancing premiered 23 October 2004 on BBC One. It was presented by Bruce Forsyth, Natasha Kaplinsky and Tess Daly.
The winner was actress Jill Halfpenny along with her dancing partner Darren Bennett.

Season 5
The fifth series of Strictly Come Dancing began on BBC One on 29 September 2007, with Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly returning as presenters.
The first programme was a catch-up show and preview to the new series, before the start of the competition on 6 October. The show ran for 12 weeks, up to 22 December. The show featured 14 new celebrities, who had been paired with 14 professional dancers. In a change to the previous format, the results show was on Sunday, rather than later on Saturday. The fifth series was also the first in which all the professional dancers from the previous year have returned.
The winners of this series were Alesha Dixon and Matthew Cutler.

Season 6
The sixth series of Strictly Come Dancing began on BBC One on 20 September 2008, with Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly returning as presenters, and Craig Revel Horwood, Arlene Phillips, Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli returning as judges.
The show featured 16 celebrities who were paired with 16 professional dancers. The new professionals were Brian Fortuna and Hayley Holt, who had previously appeared in the American and New Zealand versions of the show respectively, and Russian dancer Kristina Rihanoff, who had taken part in the Dancing with the Stars tour. Nicole Cutler was the only professional from the previous series not to return.
Tom Chambers and Camilla Dallerup were crowned the winners on 20 December 2008.
This was the last series to feature Arlene Phillips on the judging panel, as she was controversially replaced by Alesha Dixon for the seventh series.

Season 7
The seventh series of Strictly Come Dancing commenced on BBC One on 18 September 2009. Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly returned as presenters together with Craig Revel Horwood, Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli as judges. Series 5 winner, Alesha Dixon, joined the judging panel, replacing Arlene Phillips. Darcey Bussell was a guest judge from the quarter final onwards.
Series 6 winner Camilla Dallerup, series 4 winner Karen Hardy and Hayley Holt were replaced as professional female dancers by Aliona Vilani, Katya Virshilas and Natalie Lowe. The show on 7 November was filmed from the Blackpool Tower Ballroom for the first time since the Grand Final of series 2. Due to illness, Bruce Forsyth did not feature in the show on 14 November. As a result, Tess Daly took over as main presenter and Ronnie Corbett was a surprise guest. Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two host Claudia Winkleman took over Daly's normal role.
The series was won by sports presenter Chris Hollins and his professional partner Ola Jordan.

Season 8
The eighth series of Strictly Come Dancing began with a red carpet launch show on 11 September 2010, and the competitive live shows began on 1 October. The series concluded on 18 December when Kara Tointon and Artem Chigvintsev won the competition. According to BARB data, this series was the consistently highest rated of the show to date, peaking at 14.28 million viewers.
There are 14 couples in this series and three new male professionals, Artem Chigvintsev, Robin Windsor and Jared Murillo. For series 8 the set has been totally revamped to try to attract more viewers to the programme, the backstage room where scores were given has been replaced by a tower above the dancefloor so the couples can watch as their team mates perform. In week 8 of the competition the live show was transmitted from the Blackpool Tower Ballroom.
This series is presented by Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly on Saturday. On Sunday, for the results show, Daly is joined by It Takes Two presenter Claudia Winkleman.
The celebrities did not know their professional partners until they were introduced to each other at the launch show.

Season 9
Strictly Come Dancing returned with its ninth series on 10 September 2011 with a launch show, with the live shows starting on 30 September and 1 October 2011. The show was broadcast from Wembley Arena on 19 November with all proceeds going to the BBC charity, Children in Need. The final took place at the Blackpool Tower Ballroom and was the first episode in 3D, and was shown on BBC HD and 18 cinemas around the country. As in Series 8 there are 14 couples with one new male professional, Pasha Kovalev, replacing Jared Murillo.
The Saturday show was presented by Sir Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly, while the Sunday results show was presented by Daly with Claudia Winkleman. Former contestant Zoë Ball replaced Winkleman as the regular host of the spin-off show It Takes Two due to Winkleman's family commitments. On 5 and 6 November Jennifer Grey, the winner of the eleventh series of Dancing with the Stars, the American version of 'Strictly', was a guest judge, replacing Len Goodman while he had a week off. In Goodman's absence, Craig Revel Horwood was Head Judge.
The full lineup of celebrities was revealed on 6 September 2011 on The One Show. As in the previous series, the celebrities did not know who would be their professional partner until they were introduced to each other at the Launch Show. McFly drummer Harry Judd and Aliona Vilani won the show on 17 December 2011.

Season 10
The tenth series of Strictly Come Dancing began with the launch show on 15 September 2012. The live shows commenced on 5 October. Fourteen celebrities took part - the same number as last year. Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly returned to present the main show on BBC One and Claudia Winkleman returned to present the results show with Daly. Judges Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Craig Revel Horwood all returned and have been joined on the judging panel by Darcey Bussell, who replaced Alesha Dixon.
On 20 June 2012, it was announced that Katya Virshilas would not be returning to the show as a professional. On 23 June 2012, it was announced that Karen Hauer of Burn the Floor fame would replace Virshilas.
The show was broadcast from Wembley Arena on 17 November with all proceeds going to the BBC charity, Children in Need. The show on the 10 November was hosted by Daly and Winkleman while Forsyth took a break before the Wembley Arena show.
Olympic gymnast Louis Smith and professional partner Flavia Cacace won the series on 22 December 2012.

Season 11
Strictly Come Dancing returned for its eleventh series beginning with a launch show on 7 September 2013, with the live shows starting on 27 and 28 September 2013. Sir Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly continue to host, with Claudia Winkleman returning to host the results show alongside Daly. All four judges from the last series also returned.
The show will be broadcast from Blackpool Tower Ballroom on 16 November 2013.

Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman will present another series of the BAFTA award-winning Strictly Come Dancing on BBC One, putting the sparkle back into Saturday and Sunday nights.
The biggest and best dancing show on television is back this autumn with the return of Strictly's legendary judging panel. This year's celebrity line-up will be hoping to impress Head Judge Len Goodman and his fellow co-stars Darcey Bussell, Bruno Tonioli and Craig Revel Horwood.
The forthcoming series will be Len Goodman's final year on the judging panel as today he announces that he is stepping down from his role as Head Judge. Len Goodman has been Head Judge on Strictly Come Dancing since the show began on BBC One.
Len Goodman says: "In 2004, I was asked to take part in a brand new BBC Saturday night show, and who would have thought me, old Len Goodman, would still be part of this amazing series more than 10 years on. This adventure began when I was 60 and now that I've reached my 70s, I've decided after this year it's time to hand the role of Head Judge to someone else. It is an honour being part of the wonderful Strictly Come Dancing family and I'm looking forward to my last series very much and to whatever comes next."
Charlotte Moore, Director of Content at the BBC, says: "After 12 years, our wonderful Head Judge Len has decided it's time to hang up his Strictly Come Dancing shoes! I know we are all going to miss him tremendously, but I also know Len's final series is going to be full of unmissable moments and I hope audiences will give him the special send-off he so deserves."
Louise Rainbow, Executive Producer of Strictly Come Dancing, says: "We are absolutely delighted that Tess, Claudia and our judges are all returning for another year. Whilst we will be sad to say goodbye to Len, as our way of saying thank you, we are all determined to make this series the most spectacular, most glittery and entertaining yet."
Strictly Come Dancing is a BBC Studios production and returns for its 14th series this autumn on BBC One.
