Cardinal Kevin Farrell was handpicked by Pope Francis to be camerlengo, which involves running the Vatican in the days between when a pontiff passes away and another is chosen. NBC News' Anne Thompson reports Farrell spent much of his priesthood in the United States. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has denied the military details he shared were classified, but three U.S. officials familiar with the matter tell NBC News the information was given to him by a top general through secure channels. NBC ‘s Peter Alexander reports. The Vatican announced the funeral for Pope Francis will be held on Saturday. Earlier in the week, he will lie in state, and members of the public will be able to pay their respects. NBC News' Tom Llamas reports from the Vatican, where cardinals from around the world are gathering to determine the future of the church.  More than 200 educational institutions joined together to sign a statement against the Trump administration condemning what they say is government overreach and political interference. The letter comes after Harvard University sued the federal government after the Trump administration said they will slash billions of dollars in research funds. NBC News' Stephanie Gosk has more. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and FDA Commissioner Marty Makary announced they'll remove petroleum-based synthetic dyes from the nation's food supply. The dyes are found in popular foods like cereal, candy and soda. NBC News' Vicky Nguyen reports. The U.S. has reported more than 8,000 cases of whooping cough cases this year, more than double from this time last year. NBC News' Sam Brock looks at the surge in this contagious bacterial infection that spreads through droplets. Elon Musk told investors during a Tesla earnings call on Tuesday that his time at the Department of Government Efficiency will drop significantly starting in May. Musk added he would be allocating more time to Tesla. NBC News' Brian Cheung has more. Karen Read is accused of killing her former boyfriend, a Boston police officer, by running him over with her car. Her widely publicized first trial concluded with a hung jury last year. NBC's Laura Jarrett reports. There's good news tonight about Josiah Jackson, known as "the piano doctor," whose love of restoring pianos led him to fix one at O'Hare airport. Jackson's viral videos have garnered millions of views. NBC News' Maggie Vespa has the story.
