In deze vijfde aflevering onderzoekt Belga Sport waarom de voormalige zwarte parel van Anderlecht vandaag niet de superster is die destijds beloofde te worden. Ook in 1991 werd Anderlecht landskampioen. En ook toen was iedereen vol lof over een donkere jongen van zestien: Nii Lamptey uit Ghana. Lamptey debuteerde in de eerste ploeg van Anderlecht op 16 december 1990, een gure zondagnamiddag. De aanvaller was zes dagen daarvoor zestien geworden. En alsof zo jong debuteren niet volstond, scoorde Lamptey ook nog eens in zijn allereerste wedstrijd. Anderlecht verkeerde op dat moment in een serieuze dip, maar trok zich op aan de spectaculaire ontbolstering van Lamptey. Het team van de genadeloze Aad de Mos nam mede dankzij de doelpunten van Lamptey afstand van de enige overgebleven concurrent, AA Gent. De hoge vlucht van Lamptey bleef niet zonder gevolgen. Nog voor hij op bizarre wijze in Brussel belandde, werd hij trouwens al de ware opvolger van Pelé genoemd. En toen Ghana in de zomer van 1991 onder impuls van Lamptey wereldkampioen werd op het WK voor min 17-jarigen, was de beer los. Begin jaren 90 was geen voetballer zo gegeerd als de Ghanees van Anderlecht. Hoe is het te verklaren dat de naam van Nii Lamptey vandaag niet in één adem wordt genoemd met Alessandro del Piero en Juan Sebastián Verón, twee spelers die hij op dat bewuste WK in 1991 versloeg in de strijd om beste speler van het toernooi? Belga Sport reisde naar Ghana om uit te zoeken hoe de jonge parel uit Accra van het uitgestippelde pad naar succes en roem afraakte. En waarom hij na één mooi seizoen bij Anderlecht de controle over zijn carrière verloor. Met getuigenissen van onder meer Aad De Mos (trainer Anderlecht), Michel Verschueren manager Anderlecht), Stephen Keshi (voormalig ploegmaat van Lamptey), Gloria Lamptey (echtgenote) en Nii Lamptey zelf.
