Grieving from the recent death of his father, the sudden collapse of his career and the arrival of an unsurmountable government debt, George English, an American living in Sweden stumbles onto an unlikely situation - a chance for a 50 million Swedish Crown reward for solving the 30-year-old murder of the former prime minister, Olof Palme. Naturally, George begins to imagine that cracking the Palme case could be the answer to all his problems.

George tries to bring his reluctant friend Alex into the investigation, but eventually also attracts the conspiracy theorist Björn Söderqvist and the legendary private detective Sture Norberg.

With his commitment and persuasiveness, George manages to win the trust of the small group of private scouts and together they go further and further in their investigations. George starts to have problems with the substitute job at the school when he engages the students in his investigation. His tax debt and obsession have also come to Sofia's attention and she is genuinely worried about George's mental health.
Boom Boom
The gang has barely caught their breath after their great discovery when Mindy "Boom Boom" van der Graaf arrives in Sweden. Boom Boom has a reputation as a high-ranking international spy and many also suspect that she had a hand in the game around the Palme murder. This threat raises the bar for the gang. The pressure from George's tax debt is now affecting the family's housing situation and Sofia is beginning to consider leaving him.
Elmer
The gang comes across an old uncensored autopsy report and a new, extremely risky idea takes shape. The gang thinks they are close to an explanation now but not everyone is equally risk averse and opinions differ on how to proceed. George desperately wants to repair his marriage but first he just has to test his idea. Boom Boom calls in reinforcements and Elmer de Kant shows up to sweep these unbridled private detectives under the rug, once and for all.
Be careful what you wish for
George is forced to leave Sweden and flee to the United States, where Sofia and Isabella are now at home with George's mother. He is reconciled with the family but it does not take long before he realizes that he has not managed to escape from his problems. Back home in Sweden, the gang tries to explain their theories and latest escapades to the Palme Group's reconnaissance leader Ralf.
