Norsk er ikke akkurat blant verdens største språk, men det er nærmere toppen enn bunn. Faktisk er norsk nummer 142 av 6000 registrerte språk i verden. Nynorsk sliter. Det er i dag 11% som bruker det som målform i dagliglivet, en halvering siden 1950. Forstår svenskene alminnelig norsk? Forstår danskene svensk? Skjønner vi muntlig dansk? Programleder Schjerven samler tre tilfeldige skandinaver for en uhøytidelig test av hverandres språkforståelse. Både enkeltord og hele setninger skal fortolkes. Norge feirer i disse dager hundreårsjubileum som selvstendig nasjon. Hva har vi snakket mest om i denne perioden? Været, selvsagt. Hva annet kan vi nordmenn småsnakke om? Ordspråk og ordtak er ment som illustrasjoner og metaforer, og de krydrer språket. Dessverre er det ikke alle som bruker dem på rett måte. Resultatet er at meningen forsvinner eller endres totalt. Reagerer folk når en bruker ordspråkene helt, helt feil?
