Ben Nevis Race
This month the Adventure Show heads west to Fort William for the Ben Nevis race, often described as the world's toughest. Each year nearly 500 men and women run or throw themselves up and down Britain's highest mountain in under four hours - and the fastest do it in just one and a half. It started in 1895 and since then competitors have been coming to Lochaber from around the world to take part in the challenge.

It's the first time this event has been held in Scotland and over 300 competitors from 75 countries have come together at the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena in Ratho for a weekend of finger snapping, jug grasping, crimp-clasping action.

Strathpuffer 24
In the middle of winter, with 17 hours of darkness, 500 competitors head north of Inverness for one of the world's toughest mountain bike races - the Strathpuffer 24-hour marathon. Conditions are testing, with ice and mud pushing the competitors and their bikes to the very limit.

The Ultimate Marathon Man
Andrew Murray from Edinburgh is a doctor and a marathon runner. In 2010 he devised a journey that would break new ground. With minimal support he planned to run an ultra-marathon every day, from the tip of Scotland to the Sahara desert in Morocco. And to make it more difficult, he'd attempt it during winter. The distance was 2650 miles and he planned to complete it in 85 days, without taking a single day off. The Adventure Show team followed him as he attempted to set a new world record.

Carnethy 5
It's fast, it's furious and it's brutal - the Carnethy 5 started over 40 years ago and is the first hill race of the season, when the weather can vary from brilliant sunshine to deep snow. This year 600 hardy competitors battle it out over the Pentland hills just south of Edinburgh.
