MAN ALONE

He's the legendary Kiwi sailor you probably haven't heard of – Conrad Colman.

Last November 250,000 people waved Conrad off on the Vendee Globe yacht race – a solo, non-stop, round the world challenge, that is known as the Everest of the Seas. Half those who attempt it fail to even finish.

Conrad's remarkable journey of 110 days, alone, facing physical and emotional challenges he never expected, has made him a hero in France.

This week he tells his story of his near- death experience on the high seas, and how courage, Kiwi grit, and his family values helped him make it home against the odds.

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

"Be gallant, be great, be gracious, and be grateful for the opportunities that you have."

The words of Christchurch schoolboy Jake Bailey echoed around the world, as he lay dying from cancer.

The video of his 2015 prize giving speech went viral – and then, against all odds, he survived.

Now in remission, Jake faces new challenges – rebuilding his body and his life.

Reporter: Jehan Casinader Producer: Jane Skinner Camera: Gary Hopper Editor: Paul Anderson

TOWERING AMBITION

They are like a rugby scrum with 200 people, but vertical - Spain's incredible human towers.

Most prized among the participants are the tiniest of children who, in front of the nation's cameras, clamber to the very top of the human towers only to fall furthest when the towers collapse.

Reporter Denham Hitchcock had the honour of taking part in the proud 200-year-old Spanish tradition of building soaring human towers when he competed with the Xiquetes de Tarragona in the grand final and when the team's pride and glory were on the line.

Bookish

London, 1946 is the dynamic, dangerous and chaotic setting for this stylish new detective drama, with the eccentric Gabriel Book at the very heart of the story: a self-appointed consultant detective to the local police. The thousands of books that line the shelves of his shop provide him with all the knowledge he needs.

Book has gathered around him a host of lovable, damaged misfits whom he informally protects, cajoles, and mentors. His wife Trottie runs the wallpaper shop next door. She's a charismatic adventuress whom Book loves deeply but not physically, for they are in a 'lavender' marriage to help conceal Book's sexual orientation in a time when it was illegal to be gay.

Bookish marries post-war nostalgia with the reckless and life-affirming atmosphere of the times, creating a fast-paced and stylish detective drama.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert

Stephen Colbert brings his signature satire and comedy to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the #1 show in late-night. Featuring bandleader Jon Batiste with his band Stay Human, the Emmy Award-nominated show broadcasts from the historic Ed Sullivan Theater. He talks with an eclectic mix of guests about what is new and relevant in the worlds of politics, entertainment, business, music, technology, and more. Stephen Colbert took over as host, executive producer, and writer of The Late Show on Sept. 8, 2015.

Colbert is best known for his work as a television host, writer, actor, and producer, and lest known for his charity work teaching English as a second language on Tunisian date farms. Before joining the CBS family -- and being officially adopted by network president Les Moonves -- Colbert helmed The Colbert Report, which aired nearly 1,500 episodes and required Stephen to wear nearly 1,500 different neckties. The program received two Peabody Awards, two Grammy Awards, and several unwelcome shoulder massages. It won two Emmys for Outstanding Variety Series in 2013 and 2014, both of which appear to have been lost in the move. Colbert is pronounced koʊlˈbɛər, according to Wikipedia. His understudy is William Cavanaugh, who will be hosting The Late Show approximately one-third of the time. Good luck, Bill!
