Summer in the Scilly Isles - Season 1

Season 1

Episodes

Episode 1
Fern Britton gives a window into the tiny close-knit community that call the Isles of Scilly their home, beginning with the Scilly60, a unique ultra marathon where runners race around each of the five inhabited islands within a strict time limit. If they're not quick enough on each stage, they'll miss the race ferry to the next island. Also featured are the world-famous Abbey Gardens on the island of Tresco. The Isles' subtropical climate means the gardens can sustain over 20,000 types of flora and fauna from more than 80 countries.

Episode 2
Following students at the archipelago's only secondary school for their last week of term before the summer holidays. Pupils who don't live on the main island of St Mary's have to board during the week so these 11 to 16-year-olds don't see their parents from Monday to Friday. Meanwhile, the baker on the island of St Martins experiments with seaweed loaves, a conservation team tries to tag blue sharks, and unpredictable tides delay the vote count for the 2024 general election.

Episode 3
A look at a groundbreaking honeybee project called Game of Drones that is out to prove that the insects cross stretches of sea in order to mate, which has never been observed before. The race is also on for the St Mary's gig racing teams who row traditional narrow boats at weekly events, while veteran sailor Keith is hoping to get his old cutter ready for the annual round island boat race.

Episode 4
Divers explore the wreck of a 17th-century East India Company ship in search of treasures, while a couple arrive in St Mary's to get married. The islands prepare for the Low Tide Event - believed to be the world's shortest festival - held in a two-hour window when low tides create a sandy walkway between Tresco and Bryher.
