Street Genius - Season 1

Tim's opening experiment takes us trackside for a new way of re-creating the familiar trick of pulling a tablecloth away without disturbing the table settings. But the table will be set for a banquet of 24, and the cloth will be attached to a quarter of a mile of cord pulled by a stock car travelling at 115 miles per hour. Then, he attempts to rescue a tub of melted ice cream using a microwave and some flour, and demonstrates the reaction of a marshmallow placed inside a small vacuum chamber.

Get ready for more surprising street science as Tim performs extraordinary experiments with captivating outcomes to get to the extraordinary truth behind "what makes things do what they do". At a gas pump, Tim recreates the circumstances 'cigarettes, cell phones and static electricity' that could cause a raging inferno capable of blowing up a car. Then he turns his attention to his car's sound system, playing heavy bass through a mix of cornstarch and water for a different type of dancing.

Tim invites us to guess which product normally stored in a garden shed could actually blow one apart. The answer is both explosive and enlightening. Next, he tests which object 'a tennis ball, a cue ball, a rubber ball and a steel ball' is the bounciest. The outcome has some of the group baffled. Then Tim invites some diners at an open-air restaurant to find objects that will resist the fire power of a very unique type of blowtorch.

Tim takes us on a journey into the world of the spectacular and surprising science that's all around us. This time he finds out how to shoot fire from the barrel of a shotgun, create a dramatic effect in a microwave and destroy a desert boulder with an improvised explosive. Plus, he demonstrates the incredible power of empty space, the way to achieve perfect synchronicity and the effects of putting a party balloon in a microwave.

In this week's episode, Tim Shaw begins his explosive journey with a bang as he tests out which everyday grocery item can cook up the most pressure on a heated launch pad. Then he attempts a workshop demonstration of how a seemingly solid glass droplet can become a primed and ready grenade in the blink of an eye. Next, he attempts to stun local antique collectors by appearing to turn zinc to gold, before organizing a desert race between four very different propulsion methods.

Tim's first challenge involves a seemingly impossible task: how to burst a balloon behind a pane of glass without completely shattering the glass itself. Then Tim goes to a local restaurant to source the ingredients for his next demonstration of amazing science: a bottle of wine and a microwave. Then, against a desert backdrop, Tim asks a group of passersby what will happen when he fully discharges 10,000 volts from a capacitor into a watermelon.

Tim Shaw organizes a set of highly unusual scientific challenges, including a slip-sliding race to find out which household ingredient helps create the fastest surface, and a desert-based test that gets to the bottom of 'sandbox science'. Tim also asks a group of local diners to participate in a physical feat of human construction. Next, Tim throws a pool party with a twist, demonstrating the explosive reactions of one everyday metal when mixed with water.

In this episode, host Tim Shaw tests the power of attraction. Tim finds out if an electromagnet can hold a 90-pound chandelier, or if it will come crashing to the ground. Then it's time for a pitch-perfect experiment as Tim demonstrates what happens to sand on top of a flat speaker when different tones are played through the speaker. Finally, Tim tries out three different types of tires to find which will stop the car the in the rain and which will deliver explosive consequences.

In the first experiment, Tim demonstrates the properties of thermite and tests to see if anything can withstand its withering heat. Next, he tries a bar trick challenge of removing a cork that has been pushed into a bottle. The solution is simple yet surprising. The following experiment has Tim attempting to scale a wall with a rope made of toilet paper, will his plans be flushed with success? Finally, Tim uses household items to create rocket fuel for his homemade missile.

Host Tim Shaw starts off this week's episode traveling to the desert for some microwave madness by heating up champagne for more than 10 minutes. The result is a high-pressure happening. Tim's next challenge takes him to the gym where he has a group of weightlifters predict the effect of spinning a 22-pound weight with a drill and holding the attached bar in one hand.

Tim Shaw shows us how a harmless pingpong ball can pack a mighty punch, how dominoes can be used to create a powerful chain reaction and the amazing science behind the Slinky in mesmerizing slow motion. Tim also cooks up a large eggs-periment with an ostrich egg, and tests the power of rotation in a head-spinning stunt. Finally, we have a speedy short-circuit race showdown with four very different contestants: a runner, a horse with rider, a pushbike and a quad bike.

Tim ventures into the desert to test the safety of various gases for use in a blimp. Which ones will survive a spark, or will they all be blown sky high? It's disorienting science next when Tim makes a splash with a spinning disc and a set of colored dots. He also sets a healthy eating challenge that requires some out-of-the-jar thinking. Plus, a flame-boyant piece of equipment helps us to see sound, and an illuminating use for liquid nitrogen takes us to a Hollywood-style finale.

Host Time Shaw takes 'fast food' to extremes when he fires four different foodstuffs from a cannon to see which will travel the farthest. Then there's cookware used in rather unconventional ways first, Tim fights a fire with a kitchen sieve and then he attempts to perform an optical illusion with cooking oil and mixing bowls. It's time to turn up the heat with Tim's chili challenge, followed by a tank full of boiling water tipped onto a container of liquid nitrogen.
