Season 1
The story is set in the 19th century where men and women are not seen as equal. A woman will try to become a historian and try to ‘change' society. And it tells the romance between her and the prince.

Hae Ryung gets distressing news from Jae Gyeong about her betrothal. The king finds out about Yi Rim's activities. Yi Jin makes a controversial ruling.
Episode 3
Hae-ryung sits for the examination and contends with Yi Jin's questions about her point of view. Yi Rim tries to find the woman impersonating Maehwa.
Episode 4
Song Sa-hui tells Hae-ryung that she can take care of herself. Min U-won proposes to teach the recruits after they're browbeaten by ladies-in-waiting.

Yi Rim briefs Yi Jin about the attack. Hae-ryung learns the truth about Maehwa and regrets what this may mean. Yi Jin asks Hae-ryung about his brother.

Hae-ryung is vilified for writing an appeal. Yi Jin asks Sa-hui why she chose to become a historian. Hae-ryung and Yi Rim find themselves in a bind.

The king dispatches Yi Rim to visit the region when advisers raise concerns about an epidemic. Hae-ryung volunteers to go and sees someone she knows.

Hae-ryung entreats Yi Rim to allow a controversial procedure that may ease the epidemic, but U-won questions whether she grasps her role as a historian.

Yi Rim gets a visit from Queen Dowager Im. The historians face a dilemma about their duty to record. Yi Jin approaches U-won with a delicate request.

An unexpected appeal is presented to Yi Jin, which forces U-won into a difficult position. Yi Rim asks Hae-ryung her opinion about the other historians.

With instructions from U-won, Hae-ryung heads to the king's palace but is turned away. The historians grapple with a dubious royal order.

Officials search the palace for a prisoner on the loose. U-won shields a fellow historian at great risk to himself. Yi Jin receives troubling news.

Hae-ryung criticizes a tale told by Yi Rim. Yi Jin defies the king with a royal decree. One of the historians makes a startling confession to U-won.

Hae-ryung tries to enjoy a rare day off when Yi Rim shows up unannounced. Yi Jin hears an appeal submitted by U-won, which upsets the historians.

Queen Dowager Im responds to Yi Rim's earnest plea. Hae-ryung's new assignment proves to be taxing. Sa-hui realizes her fate may not be in her control.
