Episode 1
In summer 2020, Alex, Susannah and their little boy Cedar pack up their London home and drive the 700 miles to start a new life on a ten-acre croft on the Isle of Uist, in the Outer Hebrides. They are determined to live the good life, but with no jobs, a new house to build and no farming experience, they are straight in at the deep end.
Susannah has mixed feelings about returning to the island where she grew up, having never felt like she belonged, and, as the only black guy on the island, Alex has his own fear of not fitting in.

Episode 2
It's nine months since Alex and Susannah left London for their new life in the Outer Hebrides, and they are beginning to settle into island life. Alex gets a traditional crofting job cutting seaweed, while Susannah starts work at the local art centre. But it's not all plain sailing for the young couple, as they face delays on their house build, Susannah comes to terms with her unhappy childhood, and Alex faces the harsh, life-and-death reality of crofting life.

Episode 3
It's a year since Alex and Susannah made the big move, and Alex, missing the buzz of city life. heads back to London to catch up with family and friends, leaving Susannah behind to look after the animals on the croft. However, it's not long before Alex is craving the open space of the Outer Hebrides, so he heads back to his rural life, taking his city-girl mum with him for a visit - and it's a bit of a culture shock for her! Alex finds a new way to get around the island, Susannah takes up teaching in Gaelic, and, at last, there is some good news on the house build.

Episode 4
In the final episode of the series, Alex and Susannah make it through their second winter on the island, and, despite their initial concerns of being outsiders, they have been welcomed by the community. Alex helps a local crofter take sheep on a crazy boat ride to an island for common grazing, his neighbours come to his rescue when he runs into trouble at sea, and, nearly two years after they first arrived in Uist, the dream of building their own home is finally becoming a reality.
