At home it's a busy time for Sylvan and Max as they groom the dogs and help Mum to cook the family a roast dinner. But as dinner time approaches, who has eaten all the carrots?

Five-year-old Sylvan and his family are going on a trip to see his grandparents in the countryside, but first he needs to make sure he's packed a bag. On the way they stop off for a break to stretch their legs and have fun sliding down a wet, grassy hill. When they make it to their grandparents, Sylvan and his family go fishing at a local Loch. But will he be able to catch anything to eat for dinner?

It's washing day and the girls are trying to help Mum to fold the clothes before they find a better use for the washing basket. The family takes a trip to pick some fruit but will they find enough berries to bake a pie.

The American Gilded Age was a period of immense economic change, of huge fortunes made and lost, and the rise of disparity between old money and new.
Against this backdrop of change, the story begins in 1882 — introducing young Marian Brook, the orphaned daughter of a Union general, who moves into the New York City home of her thoroughly old money aunts Agnes van Rhijn and Ada Brook. The Crow Girl
