In Wisconsin, heavy rain and flooding have buckled roads and destroyed homes. Milwaukee got slammed with a summer's worth of rain in one storm. Meanwhile, 29 million remain under heat alerts across the West and part of New England. NBC News' Maggie Vespa reports from Waukesha, Wisconsin. President Trump declared a public safety emergency in Washington, DC, deploying 800 National Guard troops and taking control of the city's police. The White House says the troops will protect federal assets and deter violent crime. Statistics show violent crime is down in the city. NBC News' Gabe Gutierrez reports. A senior law enforcement official briefed on the investigation into the deadly shooting near CDC headquarters told NBC News the alleged gunman previously made suicidal statements and blamed recent health issues on the covid vaccine. Secretary of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. visited CDC headquarters and said he's committed to ensuring the safety of the agency's employees. NBC News' Priya Sridhar reports. Authorities say two suspects remain at large tonight after carjacking vehicle after vehicle including a semi-truck in a wild and dangerous pursuit in Los Angeles. NBC News' Camila Bernal reports tonight on the very latest. In Clairton, Pennsylvania, officials say one person was killed and one person is missing after a steel plant explosion this morning. The Allegheny County Health Department says air quality monitors have not detected levels above federal standards. NBC News' Adrienne Broaddus reports from the scene. Three people are dead and a suspect is in custody, according to police, after a shooting in a parking lot outside of a Target store in Austin. Authorities say the suspected gunman stole two vehicles while trying to flee. NBC News' Priscilla Thompson reports. Sources tell NBC News the White House considered including Ukraine's President Zelenskyy in Friday's high-stakes meeting with Trump and Putin, but Trump today announced Zelenskyy "wasn't a part of it". NBC's Andrea Mitchell reports. Israel claimed responsibility for airstrikes that killed five Al Jazeera journalists who were in a tent in Gaza City. Israel also claimed one of the reporters led a Hamas terror cell, a charge he and Al Jazeera has repeatedly denied. NBC's Matt Bradley reports. A five-year old boy who stepped in last minute for his older brother at a show in Texas is giving us all a reason to smile tonight after the boy's reaction, over the moon about winning fourth place with his goat, goes viral.
