They start out in Glasgow, visiting the street where Miriam's Jewish family first lived in Scotland, then journey north into the Highlands. Alan learns about his ancestral past at Cawdor Castle, they meet up with fellow actor Bill Paterson and stop off in Carnoustie, where things take a somber turn as Alan remembers his abusive childhood.

Miriam and Alan continue their motorhome adventure to rediscover their Scottish roots. Alan reveals he is on the hunt for a home to retire to as a showbiz recluse, but he is put off by the midges, so while he does a spot of house-hunting, Miriam goes all scientific to find a repellent for his tiny problem. The duo also record a song in the Gaelic language, with Miriam trying - and failing - to provide the percussion, take part in the Glencoe uphill mountain race and meet a pagan witch, who involves them in an ancient healing ritual.

Miriam Margolyes and Alan Cumming conclude their Scottish adventure making their way from Inverness to Edinburgh. Along the way, they visit Alan's mum Mary, and go rambling with her walking group in Monikie Country Park. The duo also get a lesson in `zen golf" from an old school friend of Alan, try a spot of cooking - with meat-free white pudding and kosher haggis on the menu - and head to Sir Walter Scott's majestic home in the Borders. In Edinburgh, they visit a cafe for LGBTQ+ people and reflect on their journey.

Before joining the CBS family -- and being officially adopted by network president Les Moonves -- Colbert helmed The Colbert Report, which aired nearly 1,500 episodes and required Stephen to wear nearly 1,500 different neckties. The program received two Peabody Awards, two Grammy Awards, and several unwelcome shoulder massages. It won two Emmys for Outstanding Variety Series in 2013 and 2014, both of which appear to have been lost in the move. Colbert is pronounced koʊlˈbɛər, according to Wikipedia. His understudy is William Cavanaugh, who will be hosting The Late Show approximately one-third of the time. Good luck, Bill!
