Alex liebstes und einziges Hobby ist die Fotografie. Besonders genießt sie es, dabei von ihren hartnäckigen Freunden Claudia und Niko in Ruhe gelassen zu werden, die ihr Interesse an Müll als Fotomotiv so gar nicht teilen können. Bei einer ausgiebigen Fotosession entdeckt Alex das Plakat einer Ausstellung der Fotografin Anna Stern und ist sofort fasziniert. Endlich ein Mensch, der wie sie die Ästhetik des Abfalls schätzen kann, ja, die Fotos übertreffen sogar die Qualität ihrer eigenen Bilder bei weitem. Neugierig besucht Alex die Eröffnung der Ausstellung und betrachtet voller Bewunderung die grandiosen Fotos, nur gestört von Claudia, die ebenfalls die Ausstellung aufsucht, um eine Erklärung für das aus ihrer Sicht obstruse Kunstverständnis ihrer Freundin zu bekommen. Allerdings findet sie die Bilder von Anna Stern mit all dem Müll, toten Tieren usw. ekelhaft und entsetzlich und kann Alex' Faszination nicht im Geringsten nachvollziehen.
