The House of Hallways and Doors Finally Gets a Living Room Worth Living In

Brad and Heather's living room features a confusing maze of doorways that lead to hallways that render the room itself almost useless. Anitra reveals a plan to knock down some worthless walls and close up some awkward doorways to create a space where the couple's three daughters can spread out and play, and where the whole family will want to spend time together. Custom-built furniture is on tap, including an ornate chest of drawers that will be re-imagined as a killer bar for Brad? and an oversized side table that the boys literally cut down to size to become a cool coffee table. With the room's largest wall fully closed off for the first time, monster built-ins are constructed and will become a high-tech entertainment center. They'll have secret storage and a surprise study desk inside, all hidden by mirrored doors antiqued by Anitra and Heather right in the backyard. Even a plain dining room table gets transformed with a custom-cut sheet of cherry plywood that gives the piece the exact right-size top for the space. Sleek new tile cladding and a repurposed mantel breathe new life into the existing fireplace, and the crew shows a clever way to replicate expensive barn door hardware with galvanized plumbing pipe and casters. From the newfound feeling of height and space in the living room to the glitzy toys in the media center to the dual beer taps as the fire-engine red bar, the new living room/dining room is a stylish spot for Brad and Heather's whole family? with 'Mega' written all over it.
