In Marseille, Gérard Loiret is found dead on the banks of a river. The murder weapon, found at the bottom of the water, is unusual to say the least: a pétanque ball. Always accompanied by Captain Pastor and with her experience, Marianne must demonstrate sagacity to investigate this unusual murder case, the victim of which is a pétanque player who does not hesitate to "stuff" his boules to win lucrative bets.
