Fritz Fuchs hat am wunderbaren Firmament des Bärstädter Sternenhimmels ein bislang unbekanntes Leuchtobjekt entdeckt, das er prompt nach seinem Entdecker "Der Helle Fuchs" nennt. Aber was ist dieses Ding? Nachbar Paschulke hat zahlreiche unglückselige Vermutungen: eine Sonnenexplosion, die die Atmosphäre der Erde vergiftet, ein Unglücksstern, der den Untergang der Welt bedeutet oder gar die Invasion von Außerirdischen? Aber nicht nur er macht sich Sorgen, ganz Bärstadt wird nervös, zumal die Leiterin des Astronomischen Instituts den schlimmen Befürchtungen Nahrung gibt. Fritz muss ermitteln, was wirklich hinter der außergewöhnlichen Himmelserscheinung steckt.
