When he's not raising money for wildlife preservation, the committed conservationist's extraordinary hand-rearing miracles have helped make Blackpool Zoo one of the top centres for ornithological study and bird conservation. Alan meets John Paul in the penguin enclosure and takes on the challenge of transforming an uninspiring scruffy piece of lawn, next to and overlooking the public car park. With a clever design, he turns it into a private retreat for John Paul to share with all the other dedicated keepers at the zoo. Alan and the team fill it with animal- and wildlife-friendly ideas and share their tips on clever ways to create privacy without building walls and fences.
