Козырев понимает, что в истории с грузом не все чисто. Чалый и его подельники собирают информацию о происходящем - и узнают про подпольный цех и про его покровителей, а также про то, что в цехе работают пленные немцы. Чалый решается на шантаж районного начальства - Лычкова, Супьянова и Басова. Горидзе и его подельник Гончаров избавляются от ненужного свидетеля - водителя злополучного грузовика - и начинают готовиться к переводу производства в другое место. Тем временем двое пленных немцев совершают побег из цеха и находят убежище в гараже Козырева, где он их и обнаруживает.
