Обиженная на мужа Лычкова доносит на него Павливкеру. Воспользовавшись смятением запутавшейся женщины, Павливкер соблазняет ее и силой вербует в МГБ. Самому же Лычкову он обещает "закрыть глаза" на его махинации в обмен на взаимовыгодную дружбу. Козырев прибывает на место преступления - в коммерческий магазин. Ему удается выяснить, что в ходе налета убит сторож-ветеран - родственник продавщицы Марины. Другой охранник дает точное описание нападавших, один из которых был явно против расправы над стариком. Козырев догадывается, что грабители - бывшие фронтовики, а не урки. Сама же Марина рассказывает Козыреву о своем недавнем знакомстве с неизвестным приезжим фронтовиком Андреем, накануне налета купившим кулон.
