Because of her fiancé Kirill's infidelity, the major Katya finds herself alone in Vologda. Local boys Lekha and Demyan come into conflict over her.

A lawyer warns Katya that she needs to hide from her guardian. The girl marries Lekha to hide in a military unit.

Katya complains to the colonel that her husband left her alone on the highway. Lekha learns that his wife is being sought by the police for assaulting a cab driver.

Lekha agrees to protect Katya from the guardian. Demyan demands money from Kirill for the cab driver to pick up the application.

Katya gets out of the detention center and steals a cab again. The unit leadership learns about Lekha's fight with Captain Litvinov.

Sveta, a waitress, comes to the military unit, ostensibly to visit her sister. Katya makes a jealous scene with Lekha.

Katya finds a way to neutralize Demyan. The guardian takes the girl away from the unit under a court order that she is incapacitated.
