In Paris, in the 18th century. Orphan raised by two masters of arms, Henri de Lagardère dreams of equaling the Duke of Nevers with the sword and learning his famous boot. Amused by his enthusiasm, the duke agrees to take him into his service. Jealous cousin of the duke, Gonzague murders him and arranges to have Lagardère accused. The latter, forced to flee to Spain, takes the young Aurore, born from the union of the Duke and Inès de Caylus.
