A brand-new second series goes behind the doors at Hornby HQ to see their design process first-hand and discovers imaginative and detailed layouts created by passionate model makers up and down the country.
Britain's best loved model-making company, home to four iconic brands, Hornby, Airfix, Scalextric and Corgi, opens its doors once again to reveal how their dedicated team of designers strive to shrink a new generation of mighty machines.
Whether it's century old steam engines, or cutting edge racing cars, the process from drawing board to perfect mini replica requires attention to detail and dedication.
The series also highlights Britain's best model layout builders, creating miniature masterpieces in lofts and sheds across the land.

Flying Scotsman
The iconic Locomotive Flying Scotsman is scaled down 120 times from real life, rendering some features almost invisible to the naked eye, or too small to even mould.

Starter Set
Young designer Prad has just 30 days to reinvent the model railway starter kit, and musician Jools Holland reveals his incredible 45ft layout hidden away in his loft.

Coronation Coach
Hornby prepares for a right royal year with a miniature 1930s classic "Coronation" train including the elegant "Beavertail" observation carriage. And the team struggle with a royal purple Severn Valley Jubilee loco.

Lotus 72
The Hornby team try to produce a 418-piece advanced modelling kit of the legendary Lotus 72 Formula One car, and music mogul Pete Waterman attempts his most ambitious layout to date.

Airfix Buccaneer
Airfix recreates the epic Buccaneer fighter jet with folding wings while the early steam engine "Lion" joins Stephenson's Rocket in the Era One range. And expert modeller Jenny Kirk crafts four seasons in one layout.

9F Evening Star
The Hornby team try to model a legendary steam locomotive, the 9F, and produce a unique Scalextric replica of Mr Bean's mini.

A4 Mallard
Classic locomotive Mallard is the inspiration for Hornby's latest project as the team battle with the challenges of a new scale and an epic garden layout hosts a live steam demonstration.

Black 5
Designer Phil takes on his toughest challenge yet - revamping the entire Black Five class with 842 variations, as new recruit Millie cuts her teeth on a state-of-the-art rally car replica.

Spitfire
For the first time in 50 years, the Airfix team are attempting a 1:24 scale kit of a Spitfire. Will designer Chris be able to capture the iconic warbird in sufficient detail to pull in the fans? And in an Oxfordshire loft, young enthusiast Josh and mum Lisa are working on a Paddington station inspired layout.

The FLIRT
Simon and Montana attempt the hard sell at The Dorset Steam Fair, whilst designer Steve takes on the challenge of replicating one of the world's newest trains.
