This is where Jane first meets Alison Blunt, a gifted violinist with a dangerously disturbed personality. When Jane and her friends' family are threatened she must think her way into Alison's mind, leaving a bitter aftertaste.

When upmarket gossip columnist, Simon Laser, receives an anonymous letter threatening the lives of his friends, he is not too concerned. However, when a man claiming to be his secret lover is found brutally murdered, forensic psychiatrist Jane Halifax begins her own investigation. Analysing Simon's behaviour, Jane realises he may be capable of murder. The potentially lethal question remains how...Jane realises that a lot rests upon her conclusions, including her own safety.
