Episode 1

Guy heads 200 miles above the Arctic Circle to embed with the Royal Marines, the UK's winter warfare experts. Guy is keen to find out if he's tough enough to become a special operations commando, whose job it is to operate in the harshest environments and deter an attack from an increasingly belligerent Russia. Guy embeds at Camp Viking, the Royal Marines' hub of operations in Norway, where the average temperature is minus 20, living with the commandos in their barracks and training alongside them on the annual Cold Weather Warfare Course. Guy is challenged to survive being dunked into a frozen lake and to spend a night with fellow new recruits in the wilderness. Later, there's a chance to drive an all-terrain vehicle using night vision. Guy joins up with Commando Helicopter Force for a live ride on a helicopter gunship. And he explores why exactly Russia values the Arctic so highly and the kind of weaponry they would use in an Arctic conflict.
