As a result of a scientific experiment by a scientist enthusiast, Lieutenant of the Life Guards of the Hussar regiment Grigory Savelyevich Rylsky is transferred from 1812 to our days. The lieutenant falls into the young family of the scientist Mitya, who is on the verge of divorce. When trying to bring the Hussar back to the past, the time machine breaks down, and the lieutenant is forced to stay in the XXI century until the scientist repairs the machine.
