Episodes

Episode 1
In the first episode, in Raqqa, Dave, Bushra and Chloe confront the aftermath of a brutal regime that claimed hundreds of thousands of lives and displaced millions. They meet a family living in a home destroyed by a rocket attack and witness children scavenging from rubbish dumps. Emotions run high as tears flow and a heated argument erupts. In Mogadishu, Jess, Nathan and Mathilda face a deadly mix of conflict, climate change and famine. In a refugee camp, they hear the harrowing stories of those most effected, sparking a fierce debate: should people flee, or stay and rebuild?

Episode 2
What happens when six opinionated Brits, with starkly opposed views on immigration, confront the harsh realities of refugee life? In this episode, in Syria the Brits come close to terrifying drone strikes and meet victims recovering in hospital. In Lebanon, where millions of Syrians have found refuge, the Brits witness the rising tensions as stretched resources fuel hostility. They ride along as the police search for Syrians to deport. In Tripoli, they meet a family in a ghetto, clinging to the hope of a better life in Europe. Some of the group experience what it's like to trek miles through the scorching heat. They visit Dadaab, one of the world's largest refugee camps, where they meet a resilient family whose strength forces Jess to re-evaluate her preconceptions about illegal immigration. Contrasting views erupt into fierce arguments as the group grapple with the enormity of what they're experiencing.

Episode 3
The Brits divide into two camps. Some of them meet a people smuggler, then face the terror of a sea crossing as they depart from Lebanon for Italy. In Milan, they learn why refugees leave supposedly safe countries. Heated arguments erupt over distinguishing 'genuine' refugees from economic migrants. Meanwhile, the other Brits arrive on the small Italian island of Lampedusa, meeting refugees heading into Europe. Nathan's views are challenged, and emotions run high. Reunited in the Alps, the two groups tackle a treacherous trek through the mountains into France, clashing over illegal border crossings.

Episode 4
After crossing the Alpine Mountain pass, the six Brits travel to Calais to meet refugees who are determined to make illegal dinghy crossings to the UK. In makeshift camps scattered along the coast, the shocked Brits meet adults and children who are living in terrible conditions, including a Sudanese refugee surviving in a tent hidden in the bushes by the roadside, who's attempted the crossing four times. His devastating story shocks Jess, and they form an unlikely bond. As night falls, the group witness a desperate attempt by refugees to flee France in a small boat. The police intercept them, and the Brits confront some harsh realities when they meet a family who were forced overboard by fellow refugees. At a lorry park, the Brits meet two Sudanese boys who are trying to stow away in trucks, seeking safety and hope. Nathan meets a fellow lorry driver who struggles with the daily challenge of desperate migrants repeatedly risking everything to climb into his truck. Finally, the Brits undertake one last boat crossing, to the UK, where they can reflect on their journey. Has it changed their minds about immigration, or have they held firm to their original beliefs?
