The Fight for the Right to Die

Dr. Phil speaks with a woman who has decided to travel overseas to medically end her life.
Tonight Dr. Phil will discuss the controversial topic, Medical Aid in Dying, where a competent adult, with a terminal illness, is prescribed a self-administered lethal medication to end his/her life, and is only legal in 11 parts of the country. Dr. Phil will speak with Meg, a 47-year-old woman, who suffers from chronic pain due to a permanent spinal cord injury. Meg says because she does not have a terminal illness, she has made the decision to medically end her life overseas at a facility in Switzerland. Dr. Phil will also speak with Meg's best friend, Kelly, who says she insists on being by Meg's side during her final moments. Plus, Dr. Phil will meet parents, Daren and Amy, who say they watched their daughter go from a vibrant 24-year-old woman who shined as a ballet dancer, to being given weeks to live after a terminal cancer diagnosis. They say their daughter wanted to end her pain through Medical Aid in Dying, but that option was illegal in her state, leaving them to watch her suffer until her passing.
