Simon Stahlke erlitt einen qualvollen Tod. Absichtlich wurde er mit dem Heck eines Sportwagens angefahren und eingeklemmt. Rasch enttarnen die am Tatort verstreuten Spieljetons den jungen Mann als spielsüchtig. In ihren Ermittlungen lernen Schumann und seine Kollegen ihn zudem als schillernden Verführer kennen, mit Leidenschaft für hübsche Frauen und schnelle Autos. Tatsächlich war Stahlke ein charismatischer Spieler, der wusste, wie er die Menschen um sich herum mitreißen, für sich einnehmen und schließlich für seine Zwecke ausnutzen konnte. Die Zahl der Verdächtigen, die ein Mordmotiv hätten, ist dementsprechend hoch. Sämtliche Spuren führen Schumann in ein illegales Spielcasino. Dort trifft er auf Gina alias Martha Strohheim, eine attraktive junge Frau mit auffallend roten Lippen, die die Nachricht von Stahlkes plötzlichem Tod sichtlich erschüttert – mehr als sie zugeben mag. Außerdem stellt sich heraus, dass Egon Merk, Eigentümer jenes Autohauses für exklusive amerikanische Sport- und Geländewagen, aus dem das Tatfahrzeug als gestohlen gemeldet wurde, Stahlkes Arbeitgeber war. Damit kommen die Ermittler auf die Spur einer Männerfreundschaft, bei der sich Stahlke auch nicht immer an die Spielregeln gehalten hatte. Ob ihm das zum Verhängnis wurde?
