Criquielion-Bauer, De vloek van Ronse
Ronse, 28 augustus 1988. Tot één kilometer voor de aankomstlijn op de Kruisberg verloopt het WK wielrennen voor Claude Criquielion perfect. Na zijn ontsnapping is alleen de onervaren Italiaan Maurizio Fondriest kunnen terugkeren. Maar net voor de laatste bocht naar de slotklim voegt Steve Bauer zich als uit het niets bij de twee koplopers. Het vervolg, een sprint met drie, is een zwarte bladzijde in de Belgische sportgeschiedenis. Hoe beoordeelt het peloton 22 jaar later, ontdaan van alle emoties, de beruchte sprint van Ronse? Was Steve Bauer terecht enkele jaren lang het gezicht van het kwaad? En wat dreef de doorgaans milde Criquielion na zijn spijtige val tot een rechtszaak zonder weerga? Deze aflevering gaat over een sprint die uiteindelijk vijf jaar duurde, maar gezien de verbittering en de ingehouden woede, nooit helemaal afgelopen lijkt.
