4 Juni 1994, het Heizelstadion in Brussel. Twee weken voor de Rode Duivels afreizen naar de Wereldbeker is Josip Weber de held van de natie. De Belgen hebben net Zambia verslagen met 9-0 en Weber, die pas 2 maanden Belg is, scoort 5 keer in zijn eerste officiële interland. Iedereen is ervan overtuigd: met deze Kroatische doelpuntenmachine kan België het ver schoppen op de World Cup in de Verenigde Staten. Maar wat als een sprookje begint, eindigt in een nachtmerrie. Josip's naturalisatie en de aandacht die hij in de pers krijgt als de redder des vaderlands, valt niet bij iedereen in goede aarde. Enkele collega Rode Duivels, met Marc Wilmots op kop, vragen zich openlijk af waar al die naturalisaties voor nodig zijn. Belga Sport bezocht Josip en zijn vrouw Irena bij hen thuis in Kroatië. Voor het eerst vertellen zij hun verhaal. Waarom ze ervoor kozen om de Belgische nationaliteit aan te vragen.
