Just before the start of a new school year Jakob, an autistic teenager, leads his brother Kyrstian and their friend Maciek to discover the dead body of their classmate, Joanna Walewska. Joanna was Maciek's girlfriend, and he goes into shock. When police examine the crime scene they find Joanna's handbag filled with drugs and large amounts of money. The Police Chief Slawomir Slota believes it to be suicide but the young inspector Rafal Papiński suspects she may have been murdered. The next day a newcomer, Pawel Zawadzki, arrives in Dobrowice. Pawel is the new teacher at the local high school that Joanna attended. He keeps his reasons for moving to the small town vague and is reluctant to tell the Principal why he left his job at a prestigious school in Warsaw. He makes friends with the PE coach, Daniel. While hanging out in a bar, he asks Daniel about the town and the dead student.
