Episode 1
John Beecham, a former soldier for the East India Company, buys a mansion in the area in the hope of starting a new life. His shadowy past is soon the talk of the household, particularly since he arrives accompanied by a mysterious child of unknown parentage.

Episode 2
Reports come through that Daniel is in Kannauj where the East India Company have set up a military base camp. The camp is deemed by many, including General Castillon, to be a direct provocation. John's brother, Daniel is found in a brothel drowning his sorrows. It's many years since the brothers have seen each other and it becomes clear that they have a troubled past.
As Henrietta struggles to adapt to life in India she is shaken by the arrival of Chandrika who challenges her for control of the household. Her spirits are lifted by Daniel's return as the Beecham family is reunited.
Clearly attracted to John, Margaret reconsiders her plans to return to England. However, after an upsetting meeting with Henrietta and Chandrika, Margaret wonders if she has made a mistake.
Baadal is smitten by Chanchal, but she only has eyes for Daniel.

Episode 3
John and Samuel find the perfect gift for the Empress, but when their shipment goes missing and Gopal, John's loyal servant, is murdered John's future is thrown into jeopardy. He suspects that Castillon is behind the death. Violet agrees to procure more opium for Henrietta in return for help in her quest to win John's affections. At great risk to her safety she ventures into the medical quarter and is attacked. Will Henrietta's secret addiction be exposed? Samuel reveals to Castillon that they share a common interest – the downfall of John Beecham. Samuel is determined to bring John back to England. Baadal is left heart-broken as Daniel and Chanchal become closer. Margaret is now part of the inner circle of the court and is determined to help John discover the whereabouts of the shipment. With her help, Daniel and John, at great risk, break into a property hoping to discover the gift. Will they find it before they are discovered? John's future in Delhi is at stake.

Episode 4
Chandrika visits John's room late at night fuelling suspicions about their relationship. The clandestine meeting is witnessed by Violet who tells a shocked Henrietta.

Episode 5
John is shocked to discover that Margaret has left Delhi, but before he can react there is worse news at home. The truth behind his brother Daniel's relationship with the beautiful servant Chanchal is exposed with the revelation that she is pregnant, and the brothers come to blows. However, before it can escalate further, Castillon bursts into the house to arrest John for stealing a precious diamond owned by the Emperor - who has betrayed John and who can save him?

Episode 6
John has spent several days and nights in his cell and has finally worked out who betrayed him. Daniel, Margaret and Chandrika desperately try to help release him, but only the Emperor can let him go free - and this will only happen when he is told a hard truth. Back home, the house is attacked and the women surround an empty cot, sobbing. Who has taken baby August, and why?
