From that sad turning point, she's unexpectedly created a funny and touching book that challenges conventions around loss and grief, and advocates living life to the full - whatever your age.
Brooke Davis was working part-time in a Perth bookshop when her manuscript excited the attention of a publisher.
Even ahead of its release in Australia, the novel started a bidding war with sales to publishers in more than twenty countries from the USA to Portugal.
