BiographySally Rooney (born 20 February 1991) is an Irish author known for her bestselling novels, which include Conversations with Friends (2017), Normal People (2018), Beautiful World, Where Are You (2021), and Intermezzo (2024). The first two were adapted into the television miniseries Normal People (2020) and Conversations with Friends (2022), both of which received favourable reviews. Her four novels, which have been translated into more than 47 languages, have garnered critical acclaim and commercial success, and she is regarded as one of the foremost millennial writers. Time named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2022.

Rooney is considered a literary exponent of the Irish audience, and her books, which are mostly targeted at younger readers (particularly in the coming of age category), are highly popular outside Ireland. Her novels have become bestsellers in China and the United States. Rooney has also written several works of short fiction and poetry. She received the Costa Book Award and the Irish Book Award in 2018, and the Encore Award in 2019.

As of 2024, she lives and works in Castlebar, and is active in political circles, regularly expressing her views on various global topics, movements and discussions.
