In het licht van de onvermijdelijke herverkiezing van Poetin kijkt Tegenlicht terug op diens greep naar de macht vier jaar geleden. De bomaanslagen op twee flatgebouwen in Moskou zorgden in die tijd voor het creëren van een soort noodtoestand, waarin Poetin naar voren werd geschoven als sterke man. Poetin wist binnen een kwartier wie de daders van de aanslag waren: Tsjetsjeense terroristen. En zijn oplossing was een nieuwe oorlog te beginnen.
